WinPwn RIP? Trying QuickPwn for 2.1

Well since there is still no update for WinPwn for jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone 2.1 firmware, I now switched to QuickPwn! The only thing I miss with QuickPwn is the ability to have your own custom bootlogo’s, you can only choose between standard and the Pwnage pineapple…

I have found a nice guide to help you with the quickpwn tool for the pc!

Make Vista default boot using Grub in Ubuntu

Well I just finished installing Ubuntu on my laptop and the only thing that bothered me was that it automatically booted ubuntu as default when you don’t select anything else on startup (like vista), problem is that I mostly need vista and I’m not always at the pc when booting… So I googled and found that it is so easy to change the default OS and I thought I’d share it with you:

First, you’ll have to launch your terminal in Ubuntu. It’s probably at Applications > Accessories > Terminal.
Type this in terminal:

gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

You’ll be prompted for you password as this operation requires elevated permissions.
There are some GRUB settings that you can consider changing:

timeout sec

You can change it to 5 seconds like I did so it loads into your OS faster. I’m always away from my computer during the boot up ’cause I hate to watch things boot up.

timeout 5

default num

Changing the default startup OS is extremely helpful.

default 6

Booting up to Ubuntu or Windows Vista using GRUB.

Why set default to 6? Windows Vista is the at position 6, remember that programmers, unlike my kindergarten teacher, loves counting from 0. From the above picture, my ‘default’ should be set to 6. It may be different in your set up.

Searcher for iPhone

Also just added to Cydia is the app, Searcher. This app allows you search really everything everywhere! It searches through your SMS, notes, Calendar, Safari Bookmarks, History and Contacts! If you don’t want a certain module (like sms) included in your searches, you can drag that module in the settingsmenu to Disabled modules!

Categories for 2.0 out now!

Finally the app I waited the most for is out! Categories lets you make folders for your apps so your springboard isn’t that full! Instead of 6 pages I now have only 4! And I only made a folder for games! This is a lot handier and makes browsing for an app a lot quicker! Definitely a must-have on your jailbroken iPhone!

The app is available in Cydia!

Google launching web browser “Google Chrome”

Check this comic out about the new coming Google Chrome webbrowser, never heard of it until I read it on macrumors.com! Looks interesting, I’m definitely going to try it, but I’m sceptic and don’t really think it will “win” from Firefox, but well, you never know

WinPwn 2.5-Beta 2 Update released

New update for WinPwn 2.5 to jailbreak the iPhone, just click on the ananas in the top left of the screen to update! No need to uninstall, download new version and install it anymore! Check screen if you can’t find the ananas

The update resolves some bugs (so still no unlock!):

- Crash when building ipsw

- Quickpwn crash bug fix

Finally it’s here, WinPwn 2.5 – Beta 1!

You can jailbreak the iPod Touch, the 1st Gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G all on firmwares 2.0, 2.0.1 and 2.0.2. You can also unlock the 1st Gen iPhone but not the iPhone 3G!! Still no word of unlocking it…

The program really has a nice GUI and made it all a lot easier! I’m going to test it later!

Changes:

 - QuickPwn Support for 2.0/2.0.1/2.0.2

 - Root partition resize support

 - Installer support

 - Basic / Expert modes

 - Wizard style interface

 - Automatic updater

Five Icon Dock in Cydia

What I used to have through Kate is now available as a free app, a 5 icon dock. I really enjoy it, because if you, like me, have a lot of pages with apps you know it can sometimes be annoying to scroll from the first tot the last page for a certain app you use a lot!

How to get an iTunes account without Visa!

I found this explanation on TheAppleDaily, very handy for the people without a credit card who also want to be able to download free apps for their iPod and iPhone, but also for album covers!

Follow the Steps below :

1. Open iTunes

2. Click on iTunes Store from the Left Side Pane.

3. At the very bottom of the page, select My Store as “United States”.

4. When the page opens at the Right hand side Under Quick Links, select “Redeem“.

5. Now Go to this site : http://www.tunecore.com/freealbum! You will get a Code from there.

6. Paste that Code in the Redeem Screen of iTunes.

7. You’ll be asked to Enter Your Apple/AOL IDs. Ignore that !

8. Click on Create New Account at the bottom left of that Window.

9. Enter your Details. Now at the Payment Screen you’ll see that Payment is Optional and None option is added.

10. Simply Select that None option and Click Continue !

11. Voila ! You’ve just created yourself a new iTunes Account totally FREE without any Credit Card !
